GWF EHS Compliance and Prioritization Assessment
About the Company
GWF Power Systems is a leading independent electric power producer with multiple plant facilities in Northern California. GWF produces environmentally friendly electricity and supplies energy to approximately 450,000 homes. Situated primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area, GWF uses petroleum coke, a by-product of the oil refining process, as a fuel source which is burned in technically advanced fluidized combustors to generate electricity. This process conserves natural resources while providing a critically need product, electricity, which is essential to continued growth and progress throughout California.
The Company’s Requirements
This assessment, performed at three GWF sites in Northern and Central California, was initiated to evaluate the status of GWF’s environmental, health and safety (EHS) compliance programs and to provide the Company with a list of prioritized EHS issues for corrective action. In addition EORM, assessed the degree to which management systems exist that will sustain a continuous EHS performance improvement process. EORM conducted a site visit, onsite document review, and employee interviews.
What EORM Delivered
EORM performed an EHS Compliance and
Prioritization of Issues assessment at each of the Company’s facilities.
Primary objectives of this assessment were to: 1) determine the level of
compliance with applicable federal, state and local EHS laws and regulations;
2) evaluate the extent to which their local operations were employing best
industry practices compared to other operations of similar size; and 3)
provide specific recommendations pertaining to the further implementation
of best practices at the facility. This assessment consisted of site visits,
on-site documentation review, and select employee interviews. The resulting
information provided the company with a prioritized list of EHS issues for
corrective action.
Once the assessment report was finalized, EORM and GWF met to discuss the
findings and confirm the appropriate order of priority was assigned. EORM
continues to partner with GWF to assist as needed in the completion of the
appropriate action items to ensure compliance.
