Biotech EHS Shared Services
About the Company
This biotech company is leveraging its proprietary discovery platform to generate new products primarily in the area of oncology.
Project Objectives
EORM began providing EHS shared services to the Company after they lost their EHS Manager. Initially, EORM was hired to maintain the program until the Company could find a replacement. The client found that by using a consulting firm who is efficient and can handle all EHS issues, they have the time to be more selective in their hiring of a permanent candidate. Eventually, when the Company did hire a permanent EHS Manager, EORM continued to provide shared services, compliance, and continuous improvement support.
What EORM Delivered
EORM first focused on regulatory issues that needed to be completed. Once the minimum compliance issues were addressed, EORM consultants moved on to continuous improvement and proactive EHS measures. EORM has completed the following projects for the Company:
- Regulatory reports such as the SB14 Hazardous Waste Source Reduction Plan, Biannual Waste Report, and Hazardous Materials Business Plan updates.
- Program documents such as the Injury Illness and Prevention program, Chemical Hygiene Plan, Biosafety program, Confined Space, and Lockout/Tagout program were updated and training rolled out to the population of scientists.
- Developed an emergency response flipchart and customized spill response cards for all of the lab areas, and conducted incidental spill drills in each of the lab areas.
- Audited the radiation safety program and implemented improvements.
- Developed potent compound classification documents, as well as Material Safety Data Sheets for novel compounds.
- Provided industrial hygiene support which included monitoring for particulates and organic chemical vapors in the lab and production areas.
- Conducted job hazard assessments for all lab and production tasks; this information is now being distributed to new employees as part of their new hire training.
- Provided day-to-day support including ergonomic evaluations, employee training, lab inspections, recordkeeping, and incident investigation.
