EORM Awarded Defense Logistics Agency Contract for Safety Audits
March 3, 2005
Environmental and Occupational Risk Management Inc. (EORM®), a leading environmental, health, and safety (EHS) management consulting firm, announced recently that they have been awarded a multi-year, million dollar contract to conduct safety, occupational health, and radiological compliance audits for the Defense Distribution Center (DDC) secondary field level activities (depots). The contract was awarded by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) through EORM’s General Services Administration (GSA) contract.
These audits are intended to identify and assess potential workplace hazards and recommend corrective actions including: engineering controls, personal protective equipment, and administrative controls. Compliance audits help the depots improve their health and safety performance and improve conditions in the work environment.
“EORM understands the globalization and compliance challenges of deploying a comprehensive EHS program across an organization,” commented Glenn Fishler, president/chief executive officer at EORM. “We are committed to helping the DLA accurately audit, measure and improve EHS standards at key depots and develop safety programs that benefit DLA personnel worldwide.”
The Defense Distribution Center serves as headquarters to 23 DLA Distribution Centers located throughout the United States, Europe, Japan, and Hawaii. These sites stock over 3.6 million different products in 325 million cubic feet of storage space and process more than 24 million transactions annually. Clothing and textiles, electronics, industrial, general and construction supplies, subsistence, medical material and the military services’ principle end items are among the commodities for which the distribution function and personnel are responsible.
During the first year of the contract, EORM will audit seven depots, including Germersheim, Germany, San Joaquin, California, Red River and Corpus Christi, Texas, Anniston, Alabama and Susquehanna and Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania. The DDC has 23 field level activities that will eventually be audited. The first audit began recently at the Anniston, Alabama depot.
